Should Britain re-introduce the rule of students standing and greeting the teacher?

Will this improve respect and discipline in British schools? Based on the comments in the above article, probably not.
Here in Singapore there is the rule of standing before and after lessons to greet the teacher. I believe it is a useful and works in Singapore. Although greetings become tiresome over the thousands of times they have to be repeated, I think it maintains a culture of respect for teachers.

From observations of teaching in many schools from Primary 1 to secondary 4, the greeting from the students does become lacklustre over time.
